Yes, clearly this person’s ability to stand briefly (using a shelf to pull themself up and to balance) indicates that they’re not -really- wheelchair dependent somehow. Total paralysis is the only reason anyone would ever be wheelchair dependent. Balance issues or chronic pain or muscle atrophy or seizure disorders that could lead to deadly falls? Nope none of those things exist. Everyone’s either totally paralyzed or completely ambulatory. Trufax.

I was in a wheelchair after my car accident for a multitude of reasons, but two of the big ones were having the use of only one leg and having fatigue problems that wore me out quickly. And yeah, I got flack for standing up or using my good leg to propel the chair. Not needing it 100% of the time /= not needing it.
(I wonder if it’s significant that the shelves are stocked with alcohol? Sometimes people can be ableist, body-policing douches when it comes to what drugs you’re “allowed” to use and what luxuries you’re “allowed” to have.)
